Friend is a word that I don't throw around
Though it's used and abused, I still like the sound.
I save it for people who've done right by me
And I know I can count on if ever need be.
Some of my friends drive big limousines,
Own ranches and banks and visit with queens.
And some of my friends are up to their neck
In overdue notes and can't write a check.
They're singers or cowboys or writers of prose
And others, God bless them, can't blow their own nose!
I guess being friends has nothing to do
With talent or money or knowing who's who.
It's a comfortable feeling when you don't have to care
About choosing your words or being quite fair.
Because friends will just listen and let go on by
Those words you don't mean and not bat an eye.
It makes a friend happy to see your success.
They are proud of your good side and forgive all the rest.
And that isn't easy all of the time,
Sometimes I get crazy and seem to go blind!
Your friends just might have to take you on home,
Or remind you sometime that you're not alone.
Or ever so gently pull you back to the ground
When you think you can fly with no one around.
A hug or a shake, whichever seems right
Is the high point of giving, I'll tell you tonight.
All worldly riches and tributes of men,
Can't hold a candle to the worth of a friend.

Everyone needs a friend now and again. Whether it is just someone to wile away some time with, or someone to enjoy an afternoon picnic with or someone to confide in, we all need someone.. Almost everyone has friends of varying depths, but the last category, forever friends, are indeed a special breed. Always there when you need them, always willing to listen, always willing to help, no matter the cost. These very special friends are always the first to forgive, the first to applaud, the first to praise, and the very last to leave.. They laugh with you, they cry with you, they share your pain while holding you close to shield you from the same.. This they do with unselfish abandon.. The only reward they ever seek, is the smile on your face that says you will be fine..
I felt pretty lucky to have the friends that I had, but the power of the internet has greatly expanded my wealth. I have met so many wonderful people from the far reaches of the world, and from down the street.. While all my friends are indeed precious to me and not forgotten, these pages will share with you those that have special meaning to me..

Grandsons will always make special friends. As with my own sons, they make the best fishing buddies, even if we do roll the canoe over once in a while. With love, they will grow and prosper, and they will always hold a special place in my heart.! |
